Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The defendants faced charges of spreading false claims regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the pair's significant age difference.

The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the perpetrators. The full ruling has not yet been published.

A circulating false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.

This recent ruling in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a defamation lawsuit in the United States of America against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's biological sex.

Their complaint states that Owens disregarded all credible evidence that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.

Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.

Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she was a teacher at his high school.

The two married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was 54.
